I know of a girl, whom I think is the most perfect one I’ve ever seen. She always tells me that she can truly be herself only when she is with me, and I can’t help but wonder why. We grew up together from when we were in primary school and became the best of friends since.
She is the craziest fan of Ben & Jerry’s I know and she used to bake very mean cakes. I meant that in a good way. Whenever she is asleep, she takes on the look of a fallen angel. It makes me ponder why she can’t find the person of her dreams. I wished I could morph into her prince charming and take her to her land of far, far away where she always dreamt of living happily ever after.
Nonetheless, no matter how hard I tried, she could never accept me. I’m sure I’ve got my own charms too. And I’ve got no lack of suitors, for a start. But this one girl has had me smitten from the day our church introduced her to me. And today, I intend to give her the surprise she has never imagined to happen to her in her wildest dreams…

I feel blessed to be loved this way by the best friend. He is a dream come true to me in many ways, but I guess it’s a little difficult dating someone I grew up with.
I used to believe that when the waves of love hit me, no one will be able to stop it from washing me away. I used to think that love is selfish. One has to be selfish in order to fully be able to love.
Because I have loved and lost in life. But they were all the consequences to the choices I made back then. I chose to love and gave my all. I chose to take the love I received for granted, then lost it all. I used to think that had I not been too stubborn and willful, or childish and immature, maybe I would still be loved by them. Love after all, resembles a two-way traffic of giving and taking.
But alas, all these have come to past.
Love is the attribute of God that means the most to humanity.
If God did not love His creations (that refers to all of us), He would surely have disposed of us long ago. As I read through the Bible, I come across many instances of mankind’s failures. Each time, God’s love and patience are tested but He keeps working with us. For an example, He spared the world because of Noah.
John tells us that “God is love.” ( 1 John 4:8 )
Love is God’s nature. So how much does God exactly love the world?
John 3:16 tells us that “For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have eternal life.” The Greek language has a word for this kind of love, and it is known as ‘agape’. The agape love is the highest form of love mankind can receive. It can also be termed as the ‘Christian love’ of the Bible. It is quoted as self-giving loyal concern that freely accepts another and seeks his or her good.
But okay, enough of the theories on love.
To me, love is indeed a choice, depending on which perspective you choose to look at. Just like the love we (Christians) accept from God, it is a choice too. For God doesn’t force it upon us; we hold the power to take it or to leave it. And in similar relationships, we can choose to settle down with someone or to reject the other.
Isn’t love a choice then?
For we love because He first loved us.
” Hence, I respect the choices you make. I struggle every day to understand them. But I don’t presume to judge you, to think it’s my right to interfere with your interpretation of your love. “
